Hospitality business delivers WOW factor to iconic event

Premium hospitality company Good Group Ltd has signed a deal to become a major sponsor of one of New Zealand’s iconic events, the Warbirds over Wanaka International Airshow.

The Queenstown-based company, which owns bars, restaurants and liquor stores throughout New Zealand, is a major sponsor of the bi-annual Warbirds over Wanaka (WOW) for 2010 and 2012.

Good Group Ltd (GGL) will provide an innovative range of mobile hospitality venues at the event, which will be held over Easter 2010 from April 2-4 and attracts more than 100,000 people through the gates over the three days.

GGL has secured exclusive beverage pourage rights for the event and has sole responsibility for the provision of beverage services.

GGL venues will include The Travelling Goodbar Marquee which will be open from 9am to 5pm daily. One-day tickets are $120 and include access to the event, lunch and afternoon tea from Good Group restaurant Botswana Butchery, two free drinks on arrival and entertainment.

The company is also introducing The Nation Bar, the only one of its kind in Australasia. The premium mobile multi-function venue caters for up to 400 people and is being brought down from the North Island for the occasion. GGL is partnering with DB under the Heineken brand to bring The Nation Bar to Wanaka.

The Nation Bar has previously been popular at events such as the Michael Hill NZ Golf Open, but this will be the first time WOW will offer a high end public bar.

Betty’s Liquorstores, also owned by the company, will be operating kiosks across the site to ensure guests have easy access to food and a full range of beverages, including non-alcoholic drinks, beer and wine as well as fast food and confectionary.

The company will also host a ‘first’ for the event – the ‘Goodbars.co.nz Regional Food and Wine Expo. The expo will feature 25 stalls inside Hangar 6, showcasing some of the best food and wine from the region.  There’ll be a selection of mouth-watering morsels from Botswana Butchery and Goodbrands.co.nz will exhibit its own wine and water range including Mount Charlotte and Wild Fire wines and Hydrate and Rockpool waters.

CEO Russell Gray says the company is thrilled to be partnering such an iconic event.

“Warbirds enthusiasts and aviation lovers come from all around the world to this amazing show,” he said.

“We’ll have an extensive range of food and beverage on offer for guests this year at premium vantage points around the airfield, and we want to encourage people to explore and make full use of our facilities.

“We pride ourselves on creating and delivering the ‘wow’ factor with all of our hospitality venues, from service to décor, and we’ve worked hard to ensure our travelling bars are unique, fun and exciting.”

WOW CEO Roger Clark said he was delighted to have the support of Good Group.

“We’re rapt to have Good Group on board because I believe they’ll take our food and beverage standards to a whole new level.

“They’ll also be helping us to look after our 300 volunteers during the event which is fantastic. It takes a lot of people and hard work to make this show happen so it’s great to know that we’ll have an upmarket way of showing our thanks.”

Warbirds over Wanaka is expecting more than 100,000 people through the gates over the three days and the show promises to be one of the best yet, with appearances from four different airforces from around the world.

General admission to the show is $70 for adults and $10 for children. For tickets to the Good Bars Marquee phone (+64 3) 450 0450.

Bus transport will be provided from the show back into Wanaka at the end of each day.

Commemorative wines for Warbirds Over Wanaka

In a ‘first’ for the iconic New Zealand event Warbirds Over Wanaka, Goodbrands.co.nz has developed a range of commemorative wines for the International Airshow.

The special Warbirds wines – a ‘Spitfire’ Marlborough Sauvignon, a ‘Hurricane’ Central Otago Pinot Gris and a ‘Mustang’ Central Otago Pinot Noir – will be available for a limited time from Betty’s Liquor stores throughout New Zealand as well as at the airshow.

The ‘Spitfire’ Marlborough Sauvignon is priced at $19.99, the ‘Hurricane’ Central Otago Pinot Gris at $29.99 and the ‘Mustang’ Central Otago Pinot Noir at $34.99.

A dollar from every bottle sold will be donated to the Warbirds Over Wanaka (WOW) Trust which governs the airshow.

WOW CEO, Roger Clark, said the launch of commemorative wines added a whole new dimension to the long-standing biennial event.

“It’s a fantastic commemorative idea that aviation buffs and airshow fans are sure to love,” he said. “It will also add much-needed dollars to the Warbirds Over Wanaka Trust which faces increasing costs every two years to stage this amazing event.”

Goodbrands.co.nz was established in 2003 as a beverage production and distribution company. The company supplies all Betty’s Liquor stores, Good Bars, Botswana Butchery restaurants in Queenstown and Wanaka, Ultimate Hikes, The Hermitage and NZSki ski areas. Its wine brands Mt Charlotte and Wild Fire have already picked up medals at national wine shows.

Girls can have fun at Warbirds Over Wanaka

Death defying aerobatics, historic machinery and the sound of a deep, throaty engine may not be every girl’s idea of the perfect day out – but premium hospitality company Good Group Ltd has come up with the ideal solution for those visitors to this year’s iconic Warbirds over Wanaka International airshow.

While no-one could fail to be impressed with the outstanding display of pyrotechnics, aerial dogfight recreations and military displays on offer at the three-day airshow, they tend to get the heart rate of your average male beating faster than some of their partners.

So this year Good Group Ltd (GGL) is introducing the ‘Veuve Clicquot Club’, a female-friendly lawn alongside its Heineken Hotel, another GGL initiative for the 2010 airshow.

“While the boys watch the aircraft and wander around the exhibits, their partners can relax and enjoy a glass of good champagne or wine while still being in a premium spot to catch the best of the action,” said Good Group Sales and Service Development Manager Sarah Stacey.

“From there they can visit the Goodbars.co.nz Regional Food and Wine Expo, which is also being held for the first time, and the Market Stall hangar.

“The expo will feature 25 stalls inside Hangar 6, showcasing some of the best food and wine from the region. There’ll be a selection of mouth-watering morsels from Botswana Butchery and Goodbrands.co.nz will exhibit its own wine and water range including Mount Charlotte and Wild Fire wines and Rockpool waters.”

Open daily from 8am to 5pm on each of the three days of the airshow, a daily package includes entry to the event, a Warbirds Over Wanaka programme, a complimentary drink on arrival, guaranteed seating within the marquee, which also has a fantastic outdoor viewing area, and tasty barbeque lunch and afternoon tea provided by Otago’s premier dining venue Botswana Butchery.

A cash bar is available throughout the day and there will be a VIP host and entertainment daily.
Tickets on Friday April 2 are $125pp or $1125 for a table of ten, or $150pp and $1350 per table on Saturday and Sunday April 3 and 4. Tickets are available through Ticket Direct on www.ticketdirect.co.nz.

“A visit to this year’s airshow promises to be a fantastic day out for everyone,” said Ms Stacey. “Traditionally it attracts around 100,000 people through the gates over the three days so people will have to be quick if they want to secure a spot in the marquee.”
