It had to start somewhere....
Imagine having an old garage in downtown Queenstown where you run a ski tuning business. And it so happens that you like a beer, so very fortunately there is a fridge in the corner - to reward the boys after a hard day on the slopes and at work.
Over time the session at the end of the day becomes a regular night out and the fridge is having to be refilled 7 days a week. The surroundings are not the best though. Personally, you like being able to sit back in good leather chairs, nice surroundings - like the lounge at home - when you are out drinking.
So, ski tuning is out and timber panelling and a big open fire in, leather armchairs, a small bar. Instantly an environment that you can be proud to drink in.
Thats one version from downtown Queenstown and without doubt there are others.
And then there is the issue of the Queenstown liquor policy being for set closing hours, when hundreds of people would suddenly find themselves fighting over taxis, food and whatever else came up! To spread the dispertion and bring Queenstown into line an application was made for Queenstown to have 24 hour trading and after an appeal to the National Liquor licensing authority was granted.
And we haven't looked back since - and nor has Queenstown!
